| Location
The sandy shores of Kalamaki not only attract sun seekers - a colony of loggerhead turtles use this as a nesting beach and are the star attraction here.
Transfer time
5 to 45 minutes
Nestled under the slopes of Mount Skopos with views across the bay, Kalamaki is a relaxing, but up and coming resort that offers a traditional welcome for holidaymakers of all ages, thanks to the friendly locals. On the south coast, five kilometres from Zakynthos Town, Kalamaki shares its beach with tourists and turtles.
Beaches
A long, sandy beach leads down to gently shelving, shallow water. Apart from pedalos and canoes, you won’t find many watersports as the safety of the turtles takes priority, but try nearby Tsilivi or Vassilikos instead.
Shopping
All daily basics are readily available and there are lots of tourist shops along the main road and the two main shopping streets two blocks back from there.
Nightlife
The nightlife in Kalamaki is low key, and is based around the resort's bars. For a more active night out, hop in a taxi and make the 5 minute trip to Lagana.
Local Specialities
There's a good choice of bars, restaurants and tavernas. However Lagana is only a 5 minute taxi ride away for a change of scenery.
Please Note
The resort is close to the airport, so you may hear some aircraft noise, although consideration for the turtles means there are no flights late at night.
